Russia bans import of tomatoes and peppers from Fergana region
Rosselkhoznadzor imposed this restriction to prevent the spread of the virus in the territory of the Russian Federation.
On November 26, Rosselkhoznadzor imposed a ban on the import of tomatoes and peppers from the Fergana region after the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service discovered tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) in vegetables imported from this region of Uzbekistan, TASS reports.
This virus is not included in the Common List of Quarantine Objects approved by the Eurasian Economic Commission Board.
Considering the possible negative effect the virus may have on Russia’s greenhouse vegetable industry, Rosselkhoznadzor introduced a temporary quarantine and phytosanitary measure on July 27, 2020, requiring their absence in the seeds and seedlings of tomato and pepper imported to Russia. Therefore, the agency requested the Eurasian Economic Commission to consider the issue of supplementing the List with the mentioned harmful object.
