Stone City Energy to construct TPP with a capacity of 1,560 MW in Surkhandarya region

The Dutch company Stone City Energy will construct a thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,560 MW in Surkhandarya region.
Officials of the Energy Ministry of Uzbekistan and Stone City Energy (the Netherlands) signed an Investment Agreement for the construction of a new thermal power plant (TPP) in Surkhandarya region. The investor will direct $1.2 billion for the project.
According to the ministry, thanks to the latest technologies to be used, the new TPP will save 1.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The plant’s efficiency will be 63%.
“More than 2,000 jobs will be created during the construction of the facility. And after the station is put into operation, about 150 specialists will be employed here. The investor will manage it for 25 years,” the ministry said.
It is reported that 150 hectares of land have been allocated for the construction of the thermal power plant in the Angor district of Surkhandarya region. The launch of the project is scheduled for the end of 2024.
