Three men detained for trying to sell radioactive material in Tashkent
Officers of the PGO Department for Combating Corruption and Economic Crimes and the SSS have detained citizens who attempted to sell 30 grams of radioactive material.
According to the reports, information about the illegal transaction was revealed on April 17. On the same day, together with a mobile detachment, criminal investigation officers organized and conducted an operation to prevent transfer of the material. As a result, all three were detained red-handed when receiving $9,000 for 30 grams of radioactive material.
One of the detainees was 33-year-old Oybek – a previously convicted native of Andijan region. His accomplices Azam, 30, and Akhror, 27, were not convicted, and according to operational information, were engaged in the search for potential buyers.
The Investigation Department filed a criminal charge under Article 252 Part 2 of the Criminal Code. The investigation is ongoing.
