Senate ratifies International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
On May 29, at the XV plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was considered and approved by the senators.
Ratification of the Convention will create additional guarantees to ensure the protection of the rights of persons with disabilities in Uzbekistan. It was also noted that it will serve as a program for further improvement of the legislation, strengthen the responsibility of public authorities in terms of social protection and equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
Adoption of the Convention provides the following opportunities:
- first, bringing the national system of social protection of the disabled in line with advanced international standards;
- secondly, creating opportunities to attract international and foreign grant funds to strengthen the social protection of persons with disabilities;
- thirdly, improving the international image of Uzbekistan in the field of social protection.
