Russia transfers troops to the Uzbek-Afghan border for exercises
Military personnel is redeployed from the Samara region to the polygon for joint drills near the border with Afghanistan.
The press service of the Central Military District of the Russian Federation informed: “Peacekeeping troops and special forces brigades of the Central Military District began redeployment of troops to the Termez training polygon to participate in a joint Russian and Uzbek exercises, which will be held in the Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan. IL-76 plane transported weapons and materiel from Samara Kurumoch International Airport to Termez,” Interfax reports.
Earlier it was reported that the exercises, which will involve 1.5 thousand military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan, are scheduled for the period between July 30 to August 10. The Russian contingent will mainly be military personnel of the peacekeeping troops and special forces brigades of the Central Military District.
The press service of the Central Military District noted that during the exercise, military personnel will address issues of ensuring the territorial integrity of Central Asian countries.
Also, approximately 200 units of military equipment, including aviation, will be involved in the exercises.
