Uzbekistan ranks 90 on Global Organized Crime Index
The Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) has released the first edition of their Global Organized Crime Index, a unique data-driven tool that assesses the levels of organized crime and resilience to organized criminal activity in all United Nations member states. Each country is assigned a criminality score as well as a resilience score on a scale of 1 to 10.
The results and implications of the data are introduced in a report entitled Global Organized Crime Index 2021 and also presented in an interactive website tool. By sharing this information, the creators hope to contribute to better policymaking and building effective responses to organized crime at international, national, and regional levels.
In the document, Uzbekistan ranked 90 among 193 countries and scored 4.97 points. Of the neighboring states, Kazakhstan ranked 133 (4.27), Kyrgyzstan – 72 (5.33), Turkmenistan – 113 (4.62) and Tajikistan – 62 (5.62). Russia is in 32nd place (6.24).
The first place in the ranking was taken by the Democratic Republic of Congo (7.75). Colombia (7.66) and Myanmar (7.59) are in second and third places, respectively. The list of TOP-10 criminal countries includes Mexico, Nigeria, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, CAR and Honduras.
The crime rate is the lowest in the Pacific state of Tuvalu, which took the last position (193) in the rating (1.54).
