Shavkat Mirziyoyev names major areas of cooperation with South Korea
The President of Uzbekistan stressed that “green” development, digitalization and strengthening the social protection system are main areas of cooperation with the Republic of Korea in the short term. He suggested that all future joint projects, programs and action plans be developed on the basis of these key priorities.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that if Uzbekistan's human capital and natural resources are combined with the advanced technologies and knowledge of the Republic of Korea, it will be possible to create a good ground for the development of products that are in high demand in the world market. In this regard, Mirziyoyev proposed to establish an Uzbek-Korean cluster for the development of semiconductors and electronics in Tashkent region with the involvement of the Economic Development Promotion Facility (EDPF).
The parties noted that the activities of the Textile Technopark and the Center for Agricultural Machinery, established jointly in Uzbekistan, will continue to be encouraged and developed in all areas.
Uzbekistan is interested in using Korea’s achievements in the digital economy, artificial intelligence, “smart cities”, outsourcing, a new generation of communications and Internet technology in its operations.
Emphasizing the importance of developing innovative cooperation between universities, the President of Uzbekistan suggested creating a permanent platform for their regular meetings and holding a forum of rectors of higher education institutions of the two countries next year.

During the talks, it was noted that in the post-pandemic period, tourism may be the locomotive of economic growth. Uzbekistan is ready to support the participation of Korean companies in projects related to the construction of hotels and infrastructure.
Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries and the 85th anniversary of the Korean Diaspora’s residence in Uzbekistan.
Mirziyoyev proposed to declare 2022 the Year of Mutual Exchange between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea and to establish a library in Tashkent under the auspices of the Korean History Museum and the Korean House of Culture and Arts.

Mirziyoyev and Moon also exchanged views on issues of global and regional significance.
