Uzbekistan’s coronavirus cases rising drastically after detection of omicron strain on Jan 7
On January 9, 389 people were diagnosed with coronavirus in Uzbekistan.

According to the Ministry of Health, the total number of registered coronavirus cases has reached 200,730 (+389).
Reportedly, 193 COVID-19 cases were registered in the city of Tashkent, 1 – in Karakalpakstan, 18 – in Andijan, 10 – in Bukhara, 21 – in Jizzakh, 2– in Navoi, 7 – in Namangan, 44 – in Samarkand, 5 – in Syrdarya, 1 – in Surkhandarya, 11 – in Fergana, 25 – in Khorezm and 51 – in Tashkent region.
3 COVID-19 patients died yesterday, bringing the official death toll to 1,497.
As of January 9, the number of recovered stands at 197,182 (+109).
On January 7, Uzbekistan detected the omicron variant of COVID-19 on a passenger who came from Dubai. The Special Republican Commission is considering restoring some restrictions.
