Chairman of the Central Bank Mamarizo Nurmuratov in an interview with PLUS magazine summed up the results of 2021 and shared the plans for 2022.

Among the significant results of the past year, the head of the regulator singled out the statistics of the payment systems market. Now there are 3 digital banks and 34 non-bank payment organizations in the country, 10 of which are included in the register of e-money system operators.

In 2021, 53% of deposits, 40% of microloans, 48% of utility and other payments and 15% of currency conversion transactions were made remotely.

The introduction in 2020 of an instant payment system – online money transfers between legal entities and individual entrepreneurs – led to a sharp increase in the share of cashless payments in the economy. In the 3rd quarter of 2021, the number of transactions in the system reached 3.3 million for a total of 86.1 trillion soums.

Among other things, the head of the regulator announced the development and testing of the CB digital currency. The work will be carried out in stages, taking into account the world experience of open banking. International experts will be involved in preliminary scientific research.

Digital currency – electronic money used as an alternative or additional payment instrument. Most often, their value is tied to the national currency, but it is also possible to link to precious metals (E-gold, WebMoney Gold – WMG), a floating exchange rate, like cryptocurrencies. China, Japan, Ecuador, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan and Russia have already announced plans to launch their national digital currencies.

According to Mamarizo Nurmuratov, work has begun on the introduction of SupTech technology. It will be built on the basis of the banking data warehouse at the Main Informatization Center of the Central Bank. Payment organizations and operators will also be connected here.

For information, SupTech (Supervisory Technology) is a technology used to improve the efficiency of control and supervision over the activities of financial market participants.
