Uzbekistan shares its experience at UN Forum on International Migration
On May 19-20, the UN Headquarters in New York City hosted the International Migration Review Forum.
The event was attended by the heads of the foreign ministries of the United States, Turkey, Canada, countries of Africa and Latin America, heads of the ministries of labor and migration of a number of UN member states.
The forum participants discussed the successes and barriers to the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration since its adoption in 2018, shared their experience in implementing the main goals of the document at the national, regional and global levels.
The Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan, Ambassador Bakhtiyor Ibragimov informed the participants of the event about the positive experience and achievements of our country in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the Global Compact, as well as specific measures taken to comprehensively assist migrants.
The speech specifically pointed to a three-stage mechanism for safe and orderly migration, according to which pre-departure preparation of migrants is carried out, legal and social assistance is provided at home and abroad, and assistance is provided for reintegration after returning to their homeland.
Following the forum, the declaration on progress in the implementation of the Global Compact, in which states committed to promote the meaningful participation of migrants in policy discussions that affect them, increase efforts to integrate public health considerations into migration policies, eliminate all forms of discrimination, including racism, xenophobia and related intolerance ensure effective identification of migrants who are victims of human trafficking, provide them with protection and assistance in social recovery and reintegration, was adopted.
In adopting this declaration, member states agreed to strengthen international cooperation by taking action to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals in order to address the negative forces and structural factors preventing people from creating and sustaining livelihoods and realize their aspirations.
