366 people died from carbon monoxide poisoning over 2 years

Preventive measures did not give the desired effect. The Senate Committee on Defense and Security discussed the increase in carbon monoxide poisoning of citizens.

Today, May 24, the Senate Defense and Security Committee met ahead of the twenty-sixth plenary session. It noted that from 2020 to 2021, 428 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning were recorded in the country, as a result of which 366 citizens died and 307 people received injuries of varying severity, the Senate press service reported

It was noted that despite the implementation of preventive measures, hundreds of people die from carbon monoxide.

It is reported that the prosecutor’s office carried out 105 inspections. More than 30 submissions and more than 25 warnings were issued. 25 persons were brought to disciplinary responsibility and 4 - to administrative responsibility on the revealed violations of the law.

“Consumers have not developed a safety culture when using natural and liquefied gas and alternative fuels, chimneys and ventilation ducts of gas distribution installations are out of order, not cleaned properly and do not undergo technical inspection in a timely manner, which is the reason for the increase in cases of carbon monoxide poisoning,” the Senate noted.
