Acting FM Norov receives US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West
Acting Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov today met with US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West, who is visiting our country.
According to the MFA, during the talks, the American side highly appreciated the policy of the leadership of Uzbekistan to restore the socio-economic infrastructure of Afghanistan, to provide humanitarian and other assistance to the Afghan people.
The parties agreed on the need to coordinate and systematize international efforts to support the Afghan people. In this context, the importance of using the capabilities of the multifunctional transport and logistics hub created in the city of Termez for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan was emphasized.
The similarity of positions was noted on the issue of fulfillment by the new Afghan authorities of the key requirements of the world community – the creation of a government based on broad representation, respect for fundamental human rights, ensuring the fundamental freedoms of women, including education, movement and participation in public life on an equal basis.
It was specifically stated that the land of Afghanistan should never again become a haven for various kinds of international terrorists and pose a threat both to the states of the region and third countries.
The importance of developing a consolidated approach to the issue of restoring the national economy of Afghanistan, as well as the implementation of projects in the energy, transport and communications sectors in the country was emphasized.
