According to Zafar Alimov, the head of the National Guard of Uzbekistan, their attacks in Nukus were prepared in advance.

“Now the secrecy of the investigation does not allow clarifying the details, but among the detainees there are representatives of foreign states who were in Nukus at that moment on purpose,” he said during the briefing.

It should be recalled that earlier the commandant of the territory of Karakalpakstan, the commander of the National Guard of Uzbekistan Rustam Jurayev said that out of 14 dead civilians, 13 were in a state of alcohol and drug intoxication. In addition, 243 people were injured as a result of the riots.

In order to ensure the legality and inevitability of punishment, on July 2, a case was  initiated  under Article 159 (encroachment on the constitutional order of the Republic of Uzbekistan) and other Articles of the Criminal Code.

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reported that in the course of mass pogroms and atrocities, repeated attempts were made to illegally occupy the parliamentary buildings - Jokargy Kenes, the Nukus police department and the National Guard Department. Firearms of law enforcement officers were seized. As a result, significant damage was caused to the city infrastructure.

During the attacks, 107 law enforcement officers were seriously injured, 23 of them are in serious condition. A total of 270 government officials received injuries of varying severity.

“These illegal actions bore obvious signs of a pre-planned sabotage aimed at inciting separatism, destabilizing and splitting a peaceful, united, democratic country. Under the guise of populist slogans, spreading fake news through mobile communications and the Internet, hostile forces tried to massively involve citizens in anti-constitutional activities. This forced us to take measures to temporarily limit Internet communications,” the Foreign Ministry said.
