During the meeting, the co-chairman of the subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific and Central Asia in the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the US Congress, Republican Congressman from Ohio Steve Chabot, expressing gratitude for the detailed information about the true causes of the events in Karakalpakstan and the Government’s measures to stabilize the situation in the region, stressed that the United States welcomes Uzbekistan’s intention to conduct a comprehensive, open and credible investigation.

Congressman Steve Chabot said that as a member of the Uzbekistan Caucus in the US Congress and co-chair of the subcommittee on Central Asia, he is closely following the current situation in Karakalpakstan and supports the efforts of the authorities to normalize it. "Uzbekistan is a time-tested friend and ally of the United States, and I am confident that your country will adequately overcome this ordeal, and reforms will be continued," the congressman added.

“I am sure that this tragedy that has recently overtaken your country will be the starting point for a brighter future, it will not happen again,” Congressional member of the Uzbekistan Caucus, Republican Congressman from Nebraska Don Bacon, who visited Uzbekistan in October 2021 as part of a delegation of American lawmakers, said.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan, following the meeting, the US congressmen declared their readiness to submit to the US Congress the “Congressional Record”, an official document of the US Congress distributed to the offices of all US senators and congressmen, which, in their opinion, will be useful to all members of Congress in terms of bringing to them objective information regarding events in the region. In addition, the congressmen noted that the inclusion of information on Karakalpakstan in the said document would, to a certain extent, demonstrate unity among members of Congress on this issue.
