Russia plans to modernize Fergana airport and establish an airline in Uzbekistan
The khokim of Fergana region, Khayrulla Bozorov, received the representatives of the large Russian holding “Aeroporty Regionov” headed by Sergey Krasnov, the regional administration reported.
At the meeting, the prospects of development of Fergana airport through reconstruction and modernization and the possibilities of participation of “Aeroporty Regionov” holding in this process were discussed.
Taking into account the population of Fergana valley regions and border regions of neighboring countries, expansion and modernization of Fergana airport is a promising project.
In the future, turning Fergana airport into an international transit hub between Europe and Asia, and increasing the volume of cargo by building an additional cargo terminal was highly appreciated. Opinions were also exchanged on the project of building a single large airport for the regions of the Fergana Valley.
A mutual position will be worked out on the location of an airline providing domestic flights with medium-range Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft at the Fergana airport, which is planned to be established by the “Aeroporty Regionov” holding in Uzbekistan.
“Aeroporty Regionov” holding, which modernizes and manages international airports in the Russian cities of Rostov, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Saratov, Tobolsk, Novy Urengoy and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsk through the comprehensive development program, based on its own investments and public-private partnerships, today operates in these airports serves 16 million passengers annually.
“Aeroporty Regionov” holding is also implementing the “Aeroporty Bolshoy Strany” project in cooperation with “Novaport Holding” aimed at the development of small regional airports in Russia. This project currently includes 6 airports and has reached the level of serving 2.6 million passengers annually.
