Uzbekistan condemns attack on Azerbaijani embassy in London
On August 4, members of a radical religious group broke into the embassy of Azerbaijan in Great Britain. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan condemned this and emphasized that it supports the brotherly country and any threats against the employees of diplomatic missions are absolutely unacceptable.
On August 4, a group of protesters attacked the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Great Britain.
The local police reached the spot around 16:30 after receiving information about it. It is said that there were no victims, 8 people were arrested. They are accused of illegally entering the embassy building and damaging the building.
According to the British media, the attack was organized by members of the radical group of Shiites called “Association of Servants of the Mahdi”. Videos circulating on the Internet show them waving religious flags, holding placards with Arabic slogans and tearing up the Azerbaijani flag on the embassy’s porch.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan issued a statement strongly condemning the attack.
“We believe that any behavior that threatens the life and health of employees of diplomatic missions is absolutely unacceptable.
We call for a comprehensive investigation of the incident and holding all those involved accountable.
The side of Uzbekistan expresses its support to brother Azerbaijan in ensuring the safety and protection of its citizens abroad,” the MFA said in its statement.
