On September 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
“Today we are adopting the SCO concept of strengthening interconnectedness and creating efficient transport corridors. In order to practically implement the main provisions of the concept, we propose to create, with the support of the United Nations, an interregional center for interconnectedness in the city of Tashkent,” the head of state said.
Mirziyoyev stressed that the signing of a trilateral agreement on the construction of the “China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan” railway within the framework of the summit is a historic event.
“We urge you to support another strategically important project – construction of the “Termez – Mazar-i-Sharif – Kabul – Peshawar” railway corridor,” the President said.
In his opinion, the implementation of these two projects will open up broad opportunities for strengthening interconnectedness, increasing mutual trade and investment, and, in general, ensuring sustainable economic growth in the SCO space.
“We could discuss all promising projects in the field of transport and communications at the site of the first SCO transport forum next year in Uzbekistan,” Mirziyoyev concluded.
