Uzbekistan, UNWTO discuss organizational aspects of preparations for 25th session the organization’s General Assembly in Samarkand in 2023

The Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov today met with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili, who is in our country on a visit.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zurab Pololikashvili highly appreciated the systematic measures being taken in our country to improve the sectoral infrastructure, preserve and reconstruct historical sights, and create favorable conditions for travelers.  

The Secretary General said that the UNWTO considers Uzbekistan as one of its leading partners and is ready for all-round intensification of ties with the republic. The organization highly appreciates the role of Uzbekistan in strengthening international cooperation in the field of tourism, recognizing the importance of the work carried out by the country to revive the Great Silk Road, stimulate intra-regional tourism in Central Asia, increase mutual tourist flows through the development of regional tour packages and the formation of cross-border routes. 

Particular attention is paid to interaction in the field of education. Proposals were considered to transform the International University of Tourism “Silk Road” in Samarkand into a regional center for training specialists in tourism, to hold a Forum of rectors of tourism universities of UNWTO member countries, to create a network of research institutions together with UNWTO. 

The organizational aspects of preparations for the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in 2023 in Samarkand were considered.

It should be recalled that Zurab Pololikashvili arrived on a visit to Uzbekistan on November 3. He visited Samarkand, the tourist sites of Tashkent and the capital’s region, where he got acquainted with the preparations for the 25th UNWTO General Assembly, which will be held in 2023 in Samarkand.
