The Senate approved laws on the ratification of the border delimitation agreement with Kyrgyzstan and the Andijan reservoir agreement.

On November 18, 2022, at the thirty-fifth plenary session of the Senate of Oliy Majlis, senators considered laws on the ratification of important bilateral agreements between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The relevant ministries and agencies, as well as the leaders of Andijan, Fergana and Namangan regions, deputies of the local Councils of People’s Deputies, and experts also took part in the discussion.

The senators specifically noted that a completely new atmosphere of political trust was created in the Central Asian region thanks to the initiatives of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Progress has been made in solving many problematic issues that previously stood on the way of mutual rapprochement of the countries of the region in order to achieve common interests.

At the plenary meeting, senators discussed in detail the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on separate sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz State border” and “On the ratification of the Agreement on the joint management of water resources of the Andijan (Kampirabad) reservoir between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic”.

The senators noted that the resolution of controversial issues related to the state border is of great importance in ensuring the national security of our country, as it allows to prevent border disputes and fight against illegal trade effectively.

In turn, joint use of the Andijan (Kampirabad) water reservoir creates reliable guarantees for the uninterrupted supply of water to thousands of farms.

In addition, it was noted that the adoption of these documents will serve the rational and mutually beneficial use of transboundary water resources, and will allow to bring bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

According to the results of the detailed discussion, the Senate made decisions on the approval of these laws.
