Karakalpakstan launches fuel production from waste 

The first plant for processing solid waste into fuel has been launched in Uzbekistan, Spot reported citing the press service of the Energy Ministry.

It is located in the Khodjeili district of Karakalpakstan. The production capacity of the new enterprise is 12,000 tons of fuel pellets annually, the ministry said.

For processing, oilcake, corn stalks, tree leaves, sawdust obtained during the processing of wood, as well as household waste are used. The resulting pellets can be used for heating households and social facilities in addition to coal.

The Korean Energy Agency helped establish the production of alternative fuels. The new production will provide 20 jobs.

In October, the khokimiyat of Tashkent prepared a project to reorganize the system for collecting, removing and processing waste in the capital. It is planned to attract private investors to the project, who will have to build three waste sorting centers and a biogas power plant.
