Uzbekistan Railways officially explains why an Afrosiyob train stopped on its way
On January 1, the Afrosiyob high-speed electric train en route “Bukhara-Tashkent” stopped at the “New Chinaz – Chinaz” section.
Earlier, it was reported that to deliver passengers to their destination at 20:35 from the “Tashkent-Severny” station was sent a spare electric train Afrosiyob, which arrived at the “Chinaz” station at 21:05, 269 passengers safely switched to a spare train. The train left for Tashkent and arrived at the central station at 22:05.
Passengers were provided with free hot tea, coffee and food. All 269 passengers will be fully refunded for their tickets.
Later, the press service of the Uzbekistan Railways company reported that an interdepartmental expert group was created to study the causes of the incident.
“With the on-site visit, it was found that the main reason for the breakage of the contact wire was a short circuit caused by the ingress of a foreign object – a flying luminous structure called a “sky lantern”, which people launch on holidays,” the report reads.
The above object, launched near the railway, hit the current collector of the electric locomotive and caused a short circuit, followed by heating of the contact wire in the clamp and a power outage.
Representatives of the railway company asked the citizens not to use such items near the railway and trains in order to ensure the safety of passengers and cargo.
“As this case has shown, such seemingly harmless things can affect traffic safety and lead to serious consequences,” the press service concluded.
