Czech manufacturer Škoda to deliver 10 modern electric trains to Uzbekistan
Czech rolling stock manufacturer Škoda Transportation has finalized a €120 million-agreement to supply 10 modern electric trains to Shahar Atrofida Yo‘lovchi Tashish, the commuter rail subsidiary of Uzbekistan Railways.
The agreement was officially signed during the Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF–2026) by Petr Novotný, the CEO of Škoda Group, and senior transport officials. The Ministry of Transport confirmed that the deal marks a significant expansion of a strategic transport partnership initiated during a high-level bilateral visit by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala to Uzbekistan.
The €120 million project entails the delivery of 10 wide-gauge electric trains designed for the 1520 mm track standard, built using Škoda’s advanced engineering platforms. Outfitted with European control networks and integrated climate-control systems, the new fleet is slated to upgrade local commuter services to meet international benchmarks for energy efficiency and operational safety.
A core component of the agreement is the establishment of a localized joint venture in Uzbekistan dedicated to technical maintenance and rolling stock support. The domestic facility will manage routine engineering services, accelerate repair times, and generate skilled technical employment within the country.
The maintenance venture will operate alongside the upcoming Škoda Academy, a specialized training institute designed to cultivate local engineering talent and transfer advanced railway manufacturing skills to the domestic workforce. This localized industrial infrastructure expands upon long-term development frameworks laid down in late 2025 aimed at building localized assembly and repair capabilities within the regional railway network.
