Construction of Uzbekistan-China-Kyrgyzstan railway may begin in Q4 2023
The construction of the Uzbekistan-China-Kyrgyzstan railway is expected to start in late 2023 or early next year. President of the Kyrgyz Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Temir Sariyev, announced this at the business forum held in Bishkek.
“As for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway construction project, it is very promising. For a long time, the countries could not come to a single decision on this matter. But today the leaders of China, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have political will. Therefore, relevant documents were signed in Samarkand in 2022.
It is expected that the first feasibility studies will be ready in the middle of this year, and construction work will begin at the end of the year or at the beginning of next year. If the railway is built, it will make it possible to increase the economic, trade, logistics and transport capabilities of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan several times. Also, there will be an opportunity to earn income through transit transportation in our countries,” Temir Sariyev said.
The initiative to build the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway was announced in the early 2000s, but since then, it has not been implemented.
The last high-level agreements on this topic were reached at the SCO summit held in Samarkand in September 2022.
