Uzbekistan Airports has decided to build two new areas for the reception of passengers at the P2 and P3 parking lots next to the departure hall of the “Tashkent” international airport.
“Due to the rapid increase in the number of passengers, there is not enough space in the arrivals terminal for those who come to meet their relatives and friends,” the company said.
Since January 14, due to severe cold, the airports of the republic have received permission to welcome people to the airport building.
The arrivals hall, built in 2018, reportedly does not meet international standards, and there is no space for welcomers.
“Within a few days, we took measures to separate the customs zone from the reception zone. The 400 square meters area was too narrow for those who came to the airport every day to meet their loved ones. The large number of people caused inconvenience both for the greeters and for the passengers who had to pass through the “live” corridor. There have been many complaints from passengers and security services. During this time, we have been working on a new welcome area project. However, we realized that a single building will not significantly change the situation,” Rano Jurayeva, chairman of the board of Uzbekistan Airports.
It is reported that by the end of March, two such areas with a total area of about 1,400 square meters will be built – one in place of the existing canopies, and the other – in the P2 parking lot between the departure and arrival halls.
In the near future, it is planned to start construction and assembly works in the area in front of the airport.
