Namangan Airport's new terminal to open by year-end with capacity for 3 million passengers
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the construction site of the new passenger terminal at Namangan International Airport during a working visit to the Namangan region, according to the presidential press service. The $175 million modernization project aims to significantly multiply the airport's overall handling capacity.
The newly built three-story complex covers a total area of 22,600 square meters and is scheduled to begin passenger operations before the end of this year. Projections indicate that the terminal will be capable of handling more than 1,200 travelers per hour, allowing the facility to accommodate up to 3 million passengers annually.
The upcoming terminal will feature integrated border and customs control checkpoints, a dedicated visa service desk, a business lounge, medical assistance facilities, retail and catering zones, and a Duty Free shop. The launch of the complex is expected to generate approximately 550 new local jobs.
The development plan also looks beyond commercial passenger travel. A brand-new cargo terminal with a daily handling capacity of 50 tons of goods is scheduled to enter service by the end of 2027. This facility is designed to become a core element of a unified cargo network in the Fergana Valley, aimed at expanding regional export routes to 90 countries worldwide.
After reviewing the structural progress, the President outlined a series of specific directives aimed at the further enhancement of the airport's infrastructure.
Namangan Airport originally opened in 1971 and received its international status in 2013. It currently handles scheduled flights from nine commercial airlines. The new terminal project is being executed under a March 2021 presidential decree formulated to drive public-private partnerships across national airport infrastructure.
The blueprint for the terminal was first presented to the head of state in the spring of 2024, with initial cost estimates placed at $140 million. The President previously conducted an on-site review of the project in September 2025. During that visit, Javlonbek Umarkhodjaev, the Chairman of the Board of Uzbekistan Airports, announced plans to double the number of aircraft parking stands from 7 to 14, with the overall modernization initially projected for completion by the spring of 2026.
The Namangan regional administration confirmed in April that construction and structural works were advancing at an accelerated pace, alongside parallel landscaping and greening initiatives across the surrounding airport grounds. In early May, Deputy Minister of Transport Jasurbek Choriev indicated that the terminal structure was nearing readiness for a late-June completion, noting that direct financial contributions from the private partner in the venture amounted to around $70 million.
