As a result of ongoing preventive measures, the number of crimes committed in the capital decreased by 10.8% compared to 2021. Not a single crime was committed in 157 mahallas of the capital. However, in some areas the number of crimes is growing, representatives of the Tashkent police department reported during a briefing.
The briefing presented a brief analysis of crimes committed in 2022, analyzed the types of crimes in the field of information technology and ways to protect against them.
In particular, as a result of ongoing preventive measures, the number of crimes committed in the capital decreased by 10.8% compared to last year. Among them, intentional murder decreased by 18%, intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm – by 23.6%, burglary – by 25.4% and robbery – by 35%.
It was noted that not a single crime was committed in 157 mahallas of the city.
However, due to the development of modern technologies, the number of facts of fraud and theft from bank plastic cards has increased.
According to statistical information, the number of crimes in the IT field committed in 2020 amounted to 106, in 2021 – 2,281, and doubled in 2022 and amounted to 4,332. Of these, 2,747 crimes were cyber theft, 625 – cyber fraud, 874 – drug-related crimes committed with the help of information technology.
According to the city DIA, in August 2022, in accordance with a presidential decree, a department for combating crime in the IT field was created in the structure of the Tashkent city DIA, which is engaged in the prevention of offenses, operational-search and investigative activities.
“This department consists of qualified employees with knowledge and skills in the IT field. The main direction is the prevention and suppression of crimes in the field of information technology.
During the briefing, necessary information was given about the department’s activities and its structural subdivisions.
