Police arrest Tashkent man for selling $10,000 in fake US banknotes
A man has been arrested in Tashkent after allegedly attempting to sell $10,000 worth of counterfeit US banknotes during an undercover law enforcement operation.
According to the Bureau for Combating Economic Crimes under the Prosecutor General’s Office, officers detained the suspect, identified as A. A., while he was selling 100 counterfeit $100 bills to another individual, identified as R. Z.
Investigators said the suspect agreed to exchange the fake banknotes, which carried a face value of $10,000, for $6,500 in genuine US currency. He was apprehended immediately after the transaction.
The operation was carried out by the Tashkent Territorial Department of the Bureau for Combating Economic Crimes in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 176 of the Criminal Code, which criminalizes the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit money, excise stamps, and securities.
Authorities are continuing the investigation to determine the origin of the forged banknotes and whether other individuals were involved in their distribution.
