The husband of the woman who committed suicide by throwing herself and her three children from the 9th floor in Sergeli on the night of April 3 said that she was mentally healthy.
Rafkat Sabitov, the husband of the deceased, who was on the Umrah pilgrimage, told blogger Olimjon Haydarov in an interview that he had no other family except the one he lived with, as claimed by some social media users. Rumors that he sent pictures and videos of himself with another woman to affect his wife’s mental health are baseless. He went on the trip with his classmates two days before the tragedy.
"I never left my family without material support. The reason for her staying at my mother-in-law's home was that in October 2022, there was a fire in our house, and it needed refurbishing. That day, when my wife woke up at night, she noticed the fire. I took my children to my mother-in-law's house, thinking that they would be able to recover because they were suffocated by the smoke.
I have been providing them with all they needed since then. My mother-in-law also loved me like her own son. We talked openly. My two sons went to a private kindergarten, and I visited them every day. Sometimes they would stay at my place.
Of course, there were some minor issues in our family like any other family. But there were no serious quarrels over children or money.
Did your wife have a reason to be jealous of you?
"She had no reason for that. She loved me very much, although she was jealous indeed. We went through many trials together during the birth of our children. Our third child was born prematurely and died. That's when my wife got very stressed. We encouraged each other when we were feeling uncontrollably depressed. Soon we had a daughter, she was in the hospital for 45 days. It was very difficult for both of us, but we tried to get a hold of ourselves. I thought this was the reason for her becoming this stressed… I don’t know what to say.
Has there been a change in your wife's mental state?
"No, there was no change in her mental state. Before our marriage, we went through all the medical tests together. My wife enjoyed life. But after we had more children, certain problems started to emerge. I told her to rest for a while, let our children grow up a bit, and then give birth.
There have never been any conflict situations with my wife's family. We respect each other.
The day I heard about the incident, I tried to return to Uzbekistan, but I couldn't find a ticket. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend my children’s funeral. It was a great loss – I lost my three children and my wife in one day. I don't think I would have been able to bear this tragedy if I had been there.
Did your wife text you before she died?
"She did. But because of the connection problems, I received the message late. I was shocked when I read it.
Before leaving, I bade goodbye to everyone. It was on Sunday. I went to see my children as well…
I wanted to get acquainted with the conditions here and bring them later.
I don't know what caused it. Only God knows.
