Uzbekistan’s ambassador to France: The statements of PRC diplomat will be thoroughly investigated

Ambassador of Uzbekistan to France Sardor Rustamboyev stated that the assertions made by the Chinese diplomat Lu Shai about the former USSR countries will be studied and an official statement will be issued. The Chinese ambassador had previously stated that the post-Soviet states “do not have an effective status in international law” and caused a diplomatic conflict.

“Before reacting on this issue, we need to study deeply, I have not seen the statement itself yet.

We will first study and make an official statement, if necessary, we will hold a bilateral meeting with the Chinese ambassador... We need to know what they are talking about. I am not ready to give you any statement or state our position. Because we need to get acquainted with it. We will monitor it, and if it is serious, our Ministry of Foreign Affairs may issue a statement.

In my humble opinion, of course, this is a wrong thing. It has been 30 years since we became independent and we have all the grounds and documents for our independence.

Once again, we need to study it thoroughly. Perhaps the words of the Chinese side were interpreted incorrectly,” Kun.uz correspondent quoted the Uzbekistan’s ambassador to France as saying.

It should be recalled that on April 21, Chinese diplomat Lu Shai, who gave an interview to the French TV channel LCI, stated that the former USSR countries “do not have an effective status in terms of international law, because there is no international agreement that gives their status the power of sovereign states”. The PRC ambassador to Paris also called for an end to “useless discussions” on the issue of post-Soviet borders.
