Management of four airports in Uzbekistan to be transferred to private sector

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this at the second Tashkent International Investment Forum.

According to him, the international airports of Andijan, Namangan, Bukhara and Urgench will be transferred to the private sector.

“We will continue reforms aimed at creating a competitive environment in the transport sector. This year, we will transfer the management of the airports of Andijan, Namangan, Bukhara and Urgench to the private sector,” the President said.

In addition, the head of state announced “serious changes” in the railway sector, asking investors to take an active part.

It should be recalled that in August 2020, Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to develop, together with the World Bank, the terms of reference for the transfer of management of the airports of Tashkent, Bukhara, Ferghana and Urgench on a “package principle”.

According to the analysis of international experts, the modernization of existing airports in Uzbekistan will require an average of $800 million. In this regard, it was instructed to develop, together with the World Bank, the terms of reference for the transfer of management of the airports of Tashkent, Bukhara, Fergana and Urgench according to the “package principle” (when unprofitable airports are transferred together with profitable ones).
