At the start of the meeting, Lee conveyed greetings and best wishes from Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
The sides noted the steady growth of Uzbekistan–Singapore relations, marked by regular political dialogue and contacts at various levels. Bilateral trade and the number of joint ventures have continued to increase, while Singaporean investment in Uzbekistan has reached around $2 billion.
The talks focused on plans to expand the presence of Singaporean businesses in Uzbekistan and develop a proposed strategic partnership program. Priority areas are expected to include trade and investment, technology transfer, public administration reform, human capital development and digitalization.
The leaders also discussed drawing on Singapore’s experience in developing special economic zones, establishing the Tashkent International Financial Center and expanding digital banking services in Uzbekistan.
Mirziyoyev and Lee expressed support for the activities of Singaporean universities in Uzbekistan and called for regular direct dialogue between relevant government and economic institutions. Such contacts, they said, would help oversee the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level and coordinate future joint initiatives.
The two sides also welcomed Uzbekistan’s recent accession to the United Nations Singapore Convention on Mediation.
They further exchanged views on mutual support within international organizations and prospects for cooperation at the regional level.
