Uzbekistan, USA to sign new intergovernmental agreements
The process of negotiations on the preparation of intergovernmental agreements on mutual protection of investments and avoidance of double taxation will begin.
The Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov met with the Deputy Secretary of Commerce of the United States, the Deputy of the US Trade Representative, the Vice President of the World Bank, and also held talks with the management of large American companies.
During the meetings, it was agreed to begin the process of negotiations on restoring the beneficiary status of the GSP program for Uzbekistan, organizing the 7th meeting of the working group on the country's WTO membership, activating cooperation within the framework of the creation of a joint consultation platform designed to eliminate obstacles in bilateral trade relations and the preparation of intergovernmental agreements on mutual protection of investments and avoidance of double taxation.
It is also planned to deepen cooperation in priority areas such as “green issues agenda”, “human capital development”, support of the private sector, introduction of PPP mechanisms, reduction of the state’s role in the economy, privatization, and development of small and medium-sized businesses.
Negotiations were also held with the management of American Apparel and Footwear Association, Starlink, Medtronic, Colourizd, Pfizer, B2Gold, Morgan Stanley, Akin Gump, Cerberus Frontier and other major companies.
The issues of attracting direct US investments in order to implement the projects of privatization of banks, chemical enterprises and mobile communication companies, production of innovative vaccines, construction of solar and wind power stations, introduction of advanced technologies and software to the textile industry of Uzbekistan were agreed upon.
