According to TASS, Putin previously pointed out that gas produced in Russia has never been sent to Central Asia.

Now the gas of the Russian Federation comes to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan.

According to the Russian President, this is a mutually beneficial project aimed at strengthening the energy security of the entire region.

In November 2022, Russia announced plans to create a Tripartite Gas Union with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

In May 2023, the Kazakh government announced the start of negotiations on gas transit from Russia to Uzbekistan.

In June, Uzbekistan concluded a two-year contract with Russia for the import of 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas. The agreement provides for the import of 9 million cubic meters of gas per day.

It was announced that the gas supply would begin on October 1. However, it was later postponed to the end of October.
