Uzbekistan sends nearly 100 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan (photos)
On October 10, Uzbekistan sent humanitarian aid to the people of neighboring Afghanistan, which suffered from an earthquake. At the same time, the Kun.uz correspondent, who was in Herat, reported that the aid consisting of food, pallets and medical supplies was delivered by the largest cargo plane – Boeing-747. The representative of the hosts, Mavlavi Sharafuddin Muslim, emphasized that the Afghan people will never forget the assistance provided during the hard days.
The aid sent by Uzbekistan includes food products: flour, wheat, oil, pasta, meat products, rice, sugar; there are tents and blankets, as well as all the necessary equipment for first aid.
The humanitarian aid was delivered under the leadership of Ismatilla Irgashev, the special representative of the President of Uzbekistan on Afghanistan. Media representatives also took part in the event.
The delegation of Uzbekistan was welcomed by the chairman of the commission on elimination of the consequences of the earthquake, formed by the Afghan government, Mavlavi Sharafuddin Muslim, deputy chairman Ahmadullah Muttaqi, and deputy minister of transport and civil aviation, Abdul Sattar Gurvol.
“Uzbekistan is a brotherly country that has always been the first to help us. I myself have received aid from your country several times and participated in distributing it among our suffering people. On behalf of the government and people of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, we express our deep gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his people,” the Kun.uz reporter quoted Mavlavi Sharafiddin as saying.
Abdul Sattar Gurvol told the Kun.uz reporter that a government commission is working to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake. Also, first of all, help is being given to the sick and those whose homes have been destroyed. Until today, humanitarian aid has arrived in Afghanistan from the UAE, and it is expected that aid will also arrive from Turkey.
According to the received information, today the representatives of the government headed by the first deputy prime minister of the interim government of Afghanistan, Mullah Baradar, are visiting Herat region and determining the scope of additional necessary assistance.
It should be recalled on the morning of October 7, a tragic natural disaster occurred in Afghanistan: a 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred 40 km northwest of the city of Herat. Three strong aftershocks were observed after the earthquake.
According to some reports, the number of people killed by the powerful earthquake has exceeded 2,400, and the number of victims may increase due to the rubble. Also, more than 600 houses were destroyed or partially damaged in more than 10 small settlements. More than 10,000 people were injured in various degrees.
