Masdar to invest $2.6 billion in new wind farm and energy storage
Gezhouba Group will install batteries in eight regions of Uzbekistan.
Masdar plans to build a 2 GW wind farm and energy storage facilities for $2.6 billion, the MIIT press service reports.
On December 27, representatives of MIIT, the Ministry of Energy and the Emirati company Masdar signed investment agreements on the construction of a new wind farm and electricity storage facilities for 1,150 MW.
“This project will increase electricity production by 7 billion kWh and provide more than 1 million households with electricity. The amount of investment will be $2.6 billion,” Aziz Khamidov, head of the MIPT department, said in an interview with Oʻzbekiston 24 TV channel.
He explained that the construction of energy storage facilities will stabilize the operation of the energy grid. This will help level out the difference between supply and demand during peak hours.
MIIT and National Electric Grids also entered into agreements with the Chinese Gezhouba Group on the use of energy storage systems.
According to the deputy chairman of National Electric Networks, Feruz Kurbonov, batteries will be installed in eight regions to ensure power supply at night.
On the same day, Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that preparations are now underway for the construction of 22 solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 9 GW. By 2030, green generation sources will provide 27 GW, the president noted.
