Launch of Uzbek-Kyrgyz automobile plant being postponed again
The launch of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyz joint car plant is being postponed due to weather conditions. Daniyar Amangeldiyev, Minister of Economy and Trade of Kyrgyzstan, informed 24.kg about this.
According to him, according to the “roadmap” agreed by the presidents of the two countries, the enterprise was planned to be put into operation at the beginning of this year. Earlier, it was reported that the assembly of cars will start in July.
“Due to weather conditions, this period was moved to the first half of 2024. But the work does not end there. I think that the residents of Sokuluk district see that the construction is progressing at a rapid pace. I think we will present the first products by the end of the first half of the year,” said Daniyar Amangeldiyev.
On January 27, 2023, during the business forum between the two countries, the Uzavtosanoat company agreed to organize car production in Kyrgyzstan. The concern’s partners in the joint venture will be “DT Tekhnik” and “Nur”.
According to media reports, the plant plans to produce 30,000 cars and create 1,000 jobs within six years. It is planned to assemble 19 models of Chevrolet, Daewoo and Isuzu cars at the plant. The total investment is estimated at 50 million dollars.
The construction of the factory started in the middle of May last year. Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Akilbek Japarov called the project “strategic importance for both countries”.
