The Senate's 60-day decision-making period is nearly over. According to the upper house's information service, preparations are underway for the upcoming plenary session, and the agenda is likely to include the bill concerning the sharing of images discrediting law enforcement personnel.
Initially reviewed by the Senate's relevant committees, the proposed law aims to establish penalties for disseminating photos and videos of law enforcement officers online with the intent to tarnish their reputation.
Out of curiosity about the fate of the legislation, Kun.uz contacted the head of the upper house's information service, Hojiakbar Tolaganov. He indicated that the bill remains with the Senate and could be considered in the next plenary session.
"The preparations for the plenary session are in progress and will be reviewed shortly. Before the plenary session, the Senate Council meeting will take place to decide on calling the next plenary session of the Senate.
I cannot definitively say that this matter will be reviewed before the council meeting. Everything will be clear on the day the council meeting is held. The probability of [the law] being reviewed is very high," the editorial reporter was informed.
As a reminder, the draft law was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on November 28, 2023.
According to the decision of the lower house, if the Senate does not make a decision within 60 days from the date the law reaches it, it was intended to be sent to the president. The bill was forwarded from the Legislative Chamber to the Senate on December 5 last year.
However, it is not clear exactly when the Senate received the law. Despite the Senate Committee on Defense and Security discussing the law during the elapsed time (first reported on January 11), it has not been considered in the plenary sessions. The date of the next plenary session of the parliamentary upper house has not yet been announced.
