Number of private vehicles in Uzbekistan surged by 10% in 2023
Automobile production in Uzbekistan increased by a quarter last year, with the most popular models being Cobalt, Damas, and Lacetti.
According to the Statistics Agency, the number of personal cars in Uzbekistan surged by more than 10% in 2023.
As of January 1, 2024, the number of private cars reached 4.02 million units. The volume of passenger vehicles hit 3.75 million units (a 10.6% increase), and the number of trucks reached 240 thousand units (a 9.5% rise), followed by minibuses, buses, and special vehicles— over 20,000 vehicles.
In the last seven years, the number of private cars has doubled.
In 2023, 418,000 passenger cars were produced, which is 27.4% more than the previous year. The most common model was the Chevrolet Cobalt, with 118,000 units produced (+16.1% in one year). Damas was the second most popular, with almost 90,000 vehicles produced. The third place was taken by Lacetti-Gentra (82.1 thousand units), whose production was discontinued by UzAuto Motors starting this year.
The production of the Tracker quintupled — from 9 to 48 thousand vehicles.
Compared to 2022, the mass-produced car list for the first time included the Onix (30.6 thousand units), KIA (15 thousand), Chery (9.8 thousand), Haval (134), and Exeed (94). Specialized vehicle production increased by 22.1% — to 25.5 thousand units.
Last year, Uzbekistan increased the import of Chinese cars fivefold — to 58,000 vehicles. China's share of total car imports rose from 36.8% to 79.3%, while the import of passenger cars from Russia and Kazakhstan almost ceased altogether.
