The authorities of the Novgorod Oblast banned foreigners who have a work permit from working as taxi and bus drivers, as well as selling alcoholic beverages.
The corresponding decree was signed by the regional governor Andrey Nikitin. According to the document, foreign citizens with a work permit are prohibited from selling alcohol and tobacco products, as well as working as bus and taxi drivers, RIA Novosti reports.
Employers will have until June 26 to fire their employees in categories covered by the ban. The ban does not apply to foreign citizens who have a residence permit or temporary residence permit issued in the region. And also for foreigners who are citizens of member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (Kazakhstan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan), who have the right to work in Russia without permits.
This means that citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Moldova, and Azerbaijan from the CIS countries will be subject to the ban.
It is noted that the document was adopted taking into account the recommendations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to regulate the labor market, stabilize the migration situation, and prevent extremist and terrorist crimes in the region.
Previously, restrictions on migrant labor in certain areas were adopted in the Chelyabinsk, Magadan, Kaliningrad, Tula, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, Kaluga regions, as well as in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug - Ugra and the Republic of Yakutia. The Novgorod Oblast became the 10th territory to introduce the restriction.
