Ambassador of Uzbekistan Karomiddin Gadoyev met with the director of the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia, Syed Muhammad Al-Bukhari.
During the meeting, the successful development of cooperation and the implementation of joint projects between the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia and cultural and educational institutions of Uzbekistan were noted. In particular, it was reported that the photo exhibition “Uzbekistan – the center of Islamic civilization,” held in Kuala Lumpur in March-April 2023, aroused great interest among Malaysians.
It was emphasized that projects for the exchange of best practices and the development of human capital in the direction of the creative economy have great potential. It was noted that a special educational and practical training seminar on modern museum management held in September 2023 in Tashkent within the framework of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program had a good effect.
As part of the meeting, 50 volumes of the book-album “The Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in the Collections of the World”, prepared for publication by the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan, were donated to the museum.
As a result of the negotiations, agreements were reached on holding a second training on modern museum management in Tashkent in 2025, on the next visit of the leadership of the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia to Uzbekistan, as well as on the organization of new joint exhibitions dedicated to the cultural heritage of the two countries.
Note that the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia was founded in 1998 and is the largest museum of the history of Islamic civilization in Southeast Asia. Its area is 30 thousand square meters. The museum’s collection contains exhibits reflecting the culture and art of the entire Islamic world. One of the rarest exhibits is a Sogdian silk dress from the 8th century. In 2022, in collaboration with the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan, a special volume of the series “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in World Collections” was published, dedicated to the collection of the Museum of Islamic Art of Malaysia.
