New cargo terminal being built at Tashkent airport
A new cargo terminal with an area of 5.2 hectares and a throughput capacity of 120 thousand tons per year will be built at Tashkent International Airport, the press service of the Uzbekistan Airports company reported.

At the moment, work on the design of the cargo terminal has been completed, the construction of which will be carried out in two stages.
At the first stage – before the end of 2024 – a new cargo terminal with an area of 8,000 square meters will be launched, including refrigeration and freezer rooms with an area of 500 square meters. Additionally, a new administrative building with an area of 3,000 square meters will be built for staff and representatives of importers and exporters.
At the second stage – by the end of 2025 – it is planned to build a new cargo warehouse with an area of 12,000 square meters, including modern refrigeration and freezing rooms with different temperature conditions with a total area of 1,000 square meters.
The buildings and structures of the existing cargo terminal were built in 1994-2000. These are “about 20 outdated small and medium-sized warehouse and administrative premises with a total area of about 3 hectares,” the company noted.
According to Uzbekistan Airports Cargo, the current cargo terminal capacity is actually 30 thousand tons per year. At the same time, in 2024, approximately 67 thousand tons of cargo and mail are predicted to be processed.
“All this speaks to the urgent need to expand and modernize the cargo complex. The new terminal will be equipped with modern equipment, which will reduce cargo handling time and provide air carriers with quality service in accordance with generally accepted international standards,” the company said.
On April 16, the project for the reconstruction of the capital’s airport, including the construction of a new cargo terminal, was presented to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The reconstruction and expansion of the departure terminal is currently underway. Once the work is completed, capacity will increase from 1,200 to 2,400 passengers per hour. As we wrote, the entrance to the departure hall of Tashkent airport will only be from the first floor, and the former overpass will become part of the building.
