“Our goal is to obtain permission in the coming months and begin sales,” Alimov told reporters.
According to him, in the next quarter several mass-produced BYD models will be brought to Uzbekistan for test sales. “We will select more suitable ones for production in Uzbekistan, they will be warmly received by the people,” Alimov noted.
The BYD Uzbekistan Factory joint venture is located in the Jizzakh region. This is the Chinese automaker’s first overseas plant. Its capacity at the first stage will be 50 thousand cars per year. The Chazor and Song Plus Champion models are currently produced here.
This week, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the automobile plant and left his signature on the first electric car that rolled off the assembly line.
In the coming years, the plant plans to expand its model range. As part of the second stage of the project, worth $300 million, it is planned to increase production to 200 thousand electric vehicles per year, and within the third stage, worth $500 million, up to 500 thousand electric vehicles.
