Uzbek filmmakers making a film about Makhtumkuli
Filmmakers from Uzbekistan are shooting a film about Makhtumkuli Fragi in Turkmenistan.
According to the Turkmen news portal “Salam News”, a film crew led by director Muzaffarkhan Erkinov arrived in Turkmenistan for this purpose.
Shooting of the film takes place in the joint work of the Turkmenfilm Association named after Oguz Khan and the National Center for the Development of Cinematography of Uzbekistan. They involve both Turkmen and Uzbek actors. The image of the main character – Makhtumkuli – in the film was entrusted to the Turkmen actor Akhmet Amandurdiyev.
The young actor was awarded the “Best Actor” award for his role in the melodrama “Red Apple” at the III International Film Festival of the Turkic World “Korkut Ata” in 2023.
It is reported that filming in Turkmenistan will take place in picturesque locations of the Ak Bugday etrap of Ahal velayat and in the town of Gurykhovdan until June 29. Then the filmmakers will continue working in Uzbekistan, as the main actions of the film take place in Bukhara and Khiva.
The co-authors of the script were Ore Dashgynov and Rakhymberdi Annagulyev. The film also features talented actors – People’s Artist of Turkmenistan Chary Berdiev (in the role of Azadi), Dovlet Berdiyev, Muhammetguly Kasymov, as well as Orazgeldi Durdiyev.
An agreement between Turkmen and Uzbek filmmakers to work together on the film was reached at the media forum “Turkmen Land – the Center of Civilizations,” which was held in Ashgabat in March 2024.
