"300 Grams of Meat for 150 Children" – Peshku district governor weighs meat in kindergarten

A video has been circulated showing the governor of Peshku district, Vahob Kahhorov, visiting Kindergarten No. 14 for an inspection. In the video, the governor enters the kindergarten kitchen and weighs the meat in the dishes being prepared. The meat weighed 300 grams. This meat was supposed to be for the second dish prepared for 151 children. “In this kindergarten, there are 168 children enrolled. The second dish, which was prepared for 151 children, contained all the meat from the macaroni kabob, and it weighed 300 grams. Here you have it, 300 grams of meat. Here are our heroes, the nurse, the cook, and the deputy director of the kindergarten,” said the governor in the video.

Kun.uz contacted Iroda Oripova, the press secretary of the Bukhara Region Department of Preschool and School Education, for additional information on the situation. According to her, on July 10, a working group was formed by the district governor to study the activities of social facilities. During the process, the activities of Kindergarten No. 14 were examined. “In the kitchen, the first dish was also being cooked, with 5.85 kg of meat added to it, while the second dish contained 300 grams of meat,” said Oripova.

She also mentioned that, in total, the prescribed amount of meat for the children's meals had been placed in the pot, but because the meat was frozen, some were added more to one dish and less to the other. Additionally, Oripova confirmed that the kindergarten director resigned of her own accord.

The press service of the district governor provided a slightly different account to Kun.uz. They emphasized that the first dish had close to the required amount of meat, while the second dish had less. “I am not a specialist, but I don't think the meat decreases significantly after it is put in the pot,” said the representative of the governor's press service.

It should be noted that a Senate working group previously studied the food system in kindergartens in Andijan Region, reporting that the kitchen facilities were in need of repair, lacked equipment and utensils, and poor-quality products were being supplied.

Earlier, UNICEF and the World Health Organization listed Uzbekistan among the countries where children do not receive adequate nutrition in their diet recommendations.
