Kazakhstan to terminate settlement agreement with Uzbekistan
Kazakhstan will terminate a long-term agreement with Uzbekistan on mutual settlements, Tengrinews reports.
The draft resolution of the Kazakh government, published on the draft bill discussion portal, states that the reason for the termination of the agreement was the introduction of the national currency, the soum, in Uzbekistan.
It is noted that the agreement was concluded in 1994, before the introduction of the national one, and has now lost its relevance.
"Terminate the agreement due to loss of relevance. The scope of the international treaty is currently regulated by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the explanatory note to the draft states.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan has been instructed to send a notification to the Government of Uzbekistan about the denunciation of the agreement in accordance with the procedure established by law.
Denunciation is a formal refusal by a state of a treaty it has concluded. It is a legal way to cancel treaty obligations. The rules and procedure for denunciation are provided for by the treaty itself.
