Paris Olympics 2024: Diyora Keldiyorova secures first gold for Uzbekistan
She became the first female athlete in Uzbekistan's history to win gold at the Summer Olympics. The Uzbekistan delegation also opened their medal count in Paris.
The Uzbekistan delegation won its first medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In the final judo match, representative of the 52 kg weight category Diyora Keldiyorova faced Distria Krasniqi from Kosovo.
The Uzbek judoka secured victory over the two-time European champion with a score of 1 point, achieved by a waza-ari in the second minute of the match, adding the first medal – gold – to Uzbekistan's tally.
It should be noted that this is the most significant victory in both Diyora Keldiyorova's career and in Uzbekistan's history. Until now, no Uzbek female athlete had reached an Olympic final. The only female athlete to win a medal was Ekaterina Hilko, who won bronze in trampoline at Beijing 2008. Diyora Keldiyorova has now earned her place in history as the first female athlete from Uzbekistan to win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics.
Additionally, she became the first athlete in Uzbekistan’s judo history to win an Olympic gold medal.
For information, according to the presidential decree, athletes from Uzbekistan who win medals at the Paris Olympics will receive:
– $200,000 for a gold medal;
– $100,000 for a silver medal;
– $50,000 for a bronze medal.
