Olympic judoka Gulnoza Matniyazova announces retirement after Paris 2024
Uzbekistan’s judoka Gulnoza Matniyazova announced her retirement from professional sports after competing in the 2024 Summer Olympics, according to the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Uzbekistan.
The athlete, who competed in the under 70 kg weight category, participated in the Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She was an Asian champion, a medalist in the mixed team events at the World Championships, and placed in the 2018 Asian Games and the 2019 World Military Games. She is also the first judoka from Uzbekistan to win a gold medal at International Judo Federation tournaments.
During the 2024 Olympics, in the mixed team competition on August 3, Matniyazova successfully competed against representatives from three national teams.
