Summer Olympics 2024: Svetlana Osipova bags silver, marking first female taekwondo medal for Uzbekistan
For the first time in the history of the Summer Olympic Games, a female taekwondo athlete from Uzbekistan has won a medal.
In the +67 kg weight category, Svetlana Osipova competed in the final match against the host nation's representative, world and European champion Althéa Laurin, and narrowly missed out on victory with a score of 0:2 (0:3, 3:3), earning a silver medal.
Before reaching the final, Osipova defeated renowned opponents from Great Britain and South Korea.
The Uzbekistan taekwondo team will return from the Paris Olympics with two medals. Earlier, in the -68 kg weight category, Ulugbek Rashidov won a gold medal in the men’s competition.
