Uzbekistan and Latvia discuss strengthening bilateral and inter-parliamentary ties
Uzbekistan's Ambassador, Timur Rakhmanov, met with members of the Uzbek-Latvian Friendship Group within the Latvian Parliament, Oleg Burovs and Amils Salimovs.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations and considered issues related to the development and strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation. The Uzbek side briefed Latvian counterparts about the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled to take place in Uzbekistan in October of this year.
The Latvian deputies highly praised the political and socio-economic reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, including the upcoming elections, which will be conducted under a mixed majoritarian-proportional system. They also noted that thanks to the foreign policy pursued by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, an atmosphere of mutual trust has been strengthened in the Central Asian region. As a result of the political and socio-economic reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan, Latvian companies are increasingly interested in strengthening ties with Uzbek businessmen.
It was emphasized that today Uzbekistan has become one of Latvia's key partners in Central Asia. In this regard, there was expressed readiness to provide comprehensive assistance in enhancing trade and economic cooperation and other areas of mutual interest.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to organize a visit by representatives of the Latvian Parliament to Uzbekistan in November-December.
