Uzbekistan Railways and CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive ink an agreement to upgrade locomotive fleet

Uzbekistan Railways and the Chinese company CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive signed a contract to modernize and upgrade the locomotive fleet, the press service of the state-owned company reported.

According to the agreement, the Chinese manufacturer must modernize 12 Uzbekistan electric locomotives used on the country’s railways.

It is planned to supply 38 freight and passenger electric locomotives, diesel locomotives and shunting locomotives by 2034 on an installment plan.

Uzbekistan Railways noted that the agreement will significantly improve the condition and efficiency of the locomotive fleet and will contribute to the development of the railway industry and improve the quality of transportation.

In addition, on Thursday, Transport Minister Ilkhom Makhkamov met with representatives of the Chinese delegation led by CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive President Wang Qiaolin.

At the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to the purchase and delivery of freight and passenger trains and spare parts. The published photographs show a passenger train with double-decker cars.

On August 6, at a meeting with the president, it was reported that the contract for the supply of 38 locomotives and the modernization of 12 electric locomotives would cost $181 million.

Also, the head of Uzbekistan Railways, Zufar Narzullaev, noted that trains would arrive as the outdated ones are knocked out.
